@riankverse🧿 The Longest Wait Of My Life | 2 Year Old Toddler Life | Day 197 with Riankverse 🧿
They wheeled Ritu into the operation theatre, the doors swung shut, and just like that, I was on the
other side of the most important door of my life, with absolutely nothing to do but wait. What
followed was, without competition, the longest stretch of time I have ever lived through. 🕐
Here is a scientific fact I discovered that day: time behaves completely differently outside an
operation theatre. A minute is no longer sixty seconds. A minute is a geological era. I would look
at the clock, live through what felt like an entire lifetime of worry and pacing and speculation,
look back at the clock, and discover that four minutes had passed. Four. I was convinced the clock
was broken. It was not. Time was just mocking me personally. ⏰
The mind, given nothing to do and everything to fear and hope for, goes to remarkable places. In the
space of that wait, I imagined every possible outcome, planned my entire future as a father,
panicked, calmed down, panicked again, wondered if it was a boy or a girl roughly nine hundred
times, and aged, I am fairly sure, several years. All while standing in a hospital corridor doing,
physically, absolutely nothing. 🤍
And I was not alone in this, which is a whole story of its own, because an Indian family does not
let a man wait outside an OT by himself. But in the core of it, underneath the crowd and the chaos
and the comedy that I will get to, was just me, a first-time father-to-be, standing at the threshold
of the biggest change of my life, waiting to hear the two things I cared about most: is Ritu okay,
and is our baby okay. Everything else, the gender guessing, the family drama, was just noise over
that deep, thrumming wait. 🌱
I have never wanted a door to open so badly in my life. Every fibre of me was fixed on that OT door,
waiting for someone to come through it with news. The waiting was equal parts terror and hope,
boredom and intensity, the strangest emotional cocktail I have ever tasted. 🌟
This is the first of a whole series about what actually goes on outside that door, the comedy and
the drama and the beautiful madness of a family waiting for a baby to arrive. Because while the real
event happens inside, a whole other show is running in the corridor. And I lived it. 🤍
Dads 👇 how long did your wait outside the OT feel? Did time slow to a crawl for you too? Take me
back to your longest wait.
They grow… and you don’t even realize when it happens.
This wasn’t planned.
Just a real moment I didn’t want to forget.
No scripts. No perfect setup.
Just a father and his 2-year-old… growing together.
A dad learning parenting at every stage.
Toddler life is messy, emotional, and beautiful.
One day, this will just be a memory.
